The crucifixion of Jesus Christ is celebrated in Ethiopia on April 18 (Miazia 5) every year following a 55 days complete fasting and prayer. Locally it’s known as YeSiqlet BeAL (የስቅለት በዓል). It’s Ethiopia Christians holiday, but is a national holiday where government offices are closed. Different churches celebrate it in their own dogmatic system, but the Ethiopian Orthodox church gives the celebration a unique attention and memorable color. Hundreds of thousands of Ethiopian from all over the world come home and join their family for the holiday.
